If you’re planning a tour of Blanchard Springs Caverns, time is running out for the 2022 season.

Officials from the Ozark-St. Francis National Forests have announced Sunday, Nov. 27, will be the last day that cavern tours are offered for this year’s recreation season.

There are still tours available for the remaining season, but officials recommend booking soon. Tickets must be pre-purchased at recreation.gov.

Park officials say the seasonal closure plan balances financial and staffing considerations, along with visitor and staff safety.

Most visitor use takes place from March through October, with peak season occurring in the summer months. Visitation historically drops beginning in late fall and steadily declines into the winter months.

The seasonal closure will provide an opportunity for staff to focus on addressing ongoing maintenance needs, supporting district management objectives, and maintaining other recreation areas including Blanchard Springs Campground and the adjacent day-use area.

“Although the caverns will be closed for the winter season, there are still many recreation destinations, roads, and trails that are open on forest lands for visitors to enjoy,” says Khristy Crowell, acting district ranger. “Come and enjoy your national forest by driving the Sylamore Scenic Byway or by camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, or biking. Forest lands offer opportunities for people to connect with the outdoors throughout the year.”

The 2023 season is expected to commence on March 9, 2023. Reservations will be available prior to the 2023 reopening date and will be announced in advance.

The Blanchard Springs Caverns Visitor Information Center (VIC) is located between Mountain View and Fifty-Six, Arkansas, and receives around 90,000 visitors a year. In 2023, Blanchard Springs Caverns will be celebrating its 50th anniversary.
