A Newport man is facing five drug-related felonies after a traffic stop by an Independence County sheriff’s deputy this week.
According to court information, Joshua D. Henry, 40, was stopped by Deputy Nick Ade in Batesville on Wednesday.
The arrest affidavit said the deputy recognized Henry, knowing Henry had a felony warrant for failure to appear and a suspended driver’s license. After Ade had placed Henry in custody, the deputy learned a zipper pouch had been tossed to the ground beside Henry’s vehicle. The court information said the pouch contained “…approximately 34 grams of methamphetamine, 11 fentanyl pills, three hydrocodone pills, one Xanax pill, four grams of K-2, and one methamphetamine smoking device.” Baggies, Narcan, and $540 in cash were also seized, and all the evidence was then turned over to agents with the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force.
Henry was transported to the Independence County Jail. He is charged with four felony counts of possession of a controlled substance with the purpose to deliver; one felony count of possession of drug paraphernalia with the purpose to use meth; and one misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance with the purpose to deliver. He’s also being charged as a habitual offender.
Henry’s bond was set at $50,000.
