Harris-Stowe defeats Lyon College

ST. LOUIS, Missouri – The Harris-Stowe Hornets took advantage of their free throws to take a 69-67 American Midwest Conference win over the Lyon College Scots on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis.

The Scots (7-11, 3-8) trailed 39-35 at halftime, but outscored Harris-Stowe 32-30 in the second half. Israel Palmer led Lyon with 25 points, while Nikola SaSaroga scored 14, while Trenton Bell was held to 10 points.

The Scots trailed 68-66 after a SaSaroga dunk, but a technical foul with 40 seconds to play gave the Hornets a chance to seal the game at the free throw line. Harris-Stowe took a three-point lead. Palmer was fouled with two seconds left and made one of two free throws. The Scots got the ball back on a team offensive rebound with a second to play, and Bell’s three-point shot was blocked at the buzzer.

Lyon led 9-0 early on in the first half with three baskets from SaSaroga and a three-pointer from Palmer. John Paul Morgan made a basket inside, and SaSaroga scored again on a layup and completed a three-point play with a free throw. Sando Hill made one of two from the line, and Bell hit two free throws.
Harris-Stowe came back to cut the game to two points after Devan Halford scored for Lyon and Palmer made another three-pointer. Palmer made a layup and two free throws before Morgan scored again, and Bell made two free throws with 2:38 to go in the first half. The Hornets came back to take the lead with an 11-2 run to end the half.

The Hornets led by 10 points early in the second half before Palmer made a three-pointer, put in a layup. Hill scored on a drive to the basket, and he made a three-pointer to tie the game at 54-54 with 9:15 left to go. Palmer scored seconds later to tie the game at 56-56, the Hill tied it at 58-58 for Lyon.
