A Mountain View man has officially been charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of his wife, according to Stone County Sheriff Brandon Long.

Fred Michael Mixon (pictured), 50, of Mountain View, is currently being held at the Stone County Detention Center on a $1 million bond as the investigation continues, according to Long.

Around 5 p.m. Monday, Stone County deputies, Arkansas State Police, and Arkansas Game and Fish officers responded to a report of an individual being shot in the 900 block of Jensen Road. (Click here for the initial post from White River Now.)

When authorities arrived, they found Mixon barricaded inside a residence, making threats against law enforcement. After negotiating for a time, Mixon was later taken into custody without incident, Long said.

After a search warrant was executed on the residence, the sheriff said the body of Leslie Jo Mixon, 57, of Mountain View was discovered inside.

Detectives with the Stone County Sheriff’s Department were still on the scene late Monday night working the investigation and the specific circumstances involving the shooting.
