The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a dedication ceremony Friday to name a new street in memory of a longtime Batesville school teacher.
The street, located on the campus of the Batesville High School Charter and Batesville Junior High Charter, will be named J Roepcke Way in honor of Jeanne Roepcke (pictured below), who was a career-long educator and EAST facilitator in the district.
According to a release from the chamber, the newly constructed bus route required a name for campus security purposes. BHSC EAST students worked with the City of Batesville, Batesville Superintendent Dr. Michael Hester, and the Batesville School Board to name the street after Roepcke.
The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Chaney Drive and Jennings Lane.
Roepcke, who died in 2021, was a mentor to many students in the district. She was also a strong advocate for the EAST program, a self-directed, project-based class where students are encouraged to collaborate with local partners to solve problems in the community.
All community supporters, chamber members, ambassadors, board members, and staff are invited to the dedication ceremony.
