A Jonesboro mall that received extensive damage from a March 2020 tornado will soon be torn down.

The City of Jonesboro reports The Mall at Turtle Creek’s new owner, Spinoso Real Estate Group (SREG), made the announcement on social media Thursday morning.

The city said Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver and the city’s team have been working with Spinoso and “…are excited about the possibilities this new investor in our community will present. Spinoso has pledged to work with the City to create something we can be proud of in this space, and we all look forward to the newest developments at Turtle Creek.”

“After careful consideration and planning, it has been determined that the first step in the future of The Mall at Turtle Creek is to focus on safety and improving the appearance of the property. To that end, we will be initiating efforts to clean up the site, demolish and remove damaged structures and improve the overall safety and appearance of the site,” said Carmen D. Spinoso, chairman & CEO of SREG. “We are committed to working with the tenants, the city, and the community to develop a plan that will ultimately lead to the revitalization of the property and the surrounding area. We are grateful for the community’s and city’s support. We look forward to sharing further plans as they are developed and this important first step is completed. We understand the importance of The Mall at Turtle Creek to the community, and we are committed to exploring future opportunities.”

The property’s three anchor stores — Target, JCP, and Dillard’s — will not be affected by the demolition, according to Region 8 News.
