
Former Arkansas House of Representatives member and 41-year state educator Stu Smith (pictured) will address Ozarka College graduates during the 2023 Commencement Ceremony.
Ozarka’s Commencement will take place on Thursday, May 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the John E. Miller Education Complex auditorium in Melbourne.
“We are very fortunate to have Representative Smith deliver our commencement address this year,” said Dr. Richard Dawe, Ozarka College president. “Stu has been very supportive of Ozarka College and Arkansas education through the years. It is a great honor to have such a respected member of our community to address our graduates.”
Smith is a state board member of the Arkansas Sheriff’s Youth Ranch and is an appointed member of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition. Smith is currently a teacher/coach with the Melbourne School District. He has been a member of the House Education Committee as well as serving on the Revenue and Taxation Committee; the Aging, Children and Youth, Legislative and Military Affairs Committee; the Joint Public Retirement Committee; and the Educational Auditing Committee. He also served as the Veterans Committee’s chairman and the Energy Committee’s co-chair.
A 1982 Graduate of Lyon College, he and his wife Carol reside in Batesville and have three sons and four grandsons.
