Obituary: Meridith Tims

Meridith Tims of Jonesboro, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at the age of 49. She was born February 27, 1974, in Newport, the youngest of five children born to Charles Edward and Wanda (Eddington) Tims.

Meridith grew up with a great love for her family. She loved the fact that she and her mother shared a birthday, and could celebrate together.

She was a member of the Tuckerman High School Class of 1992. Meridith was a Bulldog cheerleader, and a member of the History Club, who earned trips to Washington D.C. where they competed for and won numerous awards. Following her graduation as the class Valedictorian, Meridith enrolled at Arkansas State University, graduating Magna cum Laude in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a minor in Philosophy. During her time at Arkansas State, she was a member of the Debate Team and recipient of the Journalism Award.

Meridith began her career working in retail earning her way to manager at Dillards, Sears, and J.C. Penney’s. Currently, Meridith was the manager of Regions Bank in Jonesboro.

Meridith was a voracious reader. She loved decorating her house and making it a welcoming home. Meridith seemed to possess a natural talent for everything she attempted. Entertaining and giving parties was a joy to her. She could successfully pull any event together beautifully.

Meridith was genuinely beautiful both inside and out. She possessed both a naturally gracious spirit and a truly kind heart. Meridith loved her family unconditionally and without reservation. Her greatest love was for her five nephews. They were the light of her life. Meridith was given the honor of naming her youngest nephew, Warren.

Meridith was a member of the Tuckerman First Baptist Church, where she played piano and sang specials.

She was a friend to all who knew her. Meridith will forever be remembered for her great kindness, friendship, and lovingly loyal heart.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Edward Tims; and one
brother, Roger Tims.

Meridith is survived by her mother, Wanda (Eddington) Tims of Tuckerman; one brother, Eddie Tims and wife, Deana of Newport; two sisters, Sherry Smith and husband, Benny of Newport, and Terry Hodges and husband, Tim, of Jonesboro; her companion of six years, Dustin South of Jonesboro; one sister-in-law, Lucy Tims of Tuckerman; five nephews, Kevin McGinnis and wife, Marlana, Ethan McGinnis and friend, Breanna, Weston Smith, Warren Smith, and Eric Tims; and a lifetime of friends.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday, June 5, 2023, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Gracelawn Cemetery.

Her nephews, Kevin McGinnis, Ethan McGinnis, Weston Smith, Warren Smith, and Eric Tims, are honored to serve as her pallbearers. The Tuckerman High School Class of 1992 are honorary pallbearers.
