Obituary: Robert L. “Bobby” Deaton

Robert L. “Bobby” Deaton, 88, of Cave City, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023, at his home. He was born March 15, 1935, in Moorefield, Arkansas to Willis and Ethel (Manning) Deaton. He served in the National Guard during the Segregation in Little Rock, Arkansas. Bobby was retired from Town & Country Grocery Store in Cave City where he was Manager for 20 years. He was also a member of the Cave City First Free Will Baptist Church in Cave City where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Song Leader and was a proud member of the Master’s Men.

Bobby loved traveling with his wife, Glyndene; he has been to all 50 states in the U.S.  He loved telling stories as anyone who met Bobby knew. He loved Southern gospel music and attended the National Quartet Convention for many years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Scott Deaton; one brother, Max Deaton; one sister, Jackie Sandy; and two grandchildren, Troy Sneed and Brian Gann.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Glyndene Deaton; his children, William T. Milligan, Linette (Randy) Gann and Glenda Waters; his grandchildren, Amber (Adam) Kelley, Amanda Blevins, Robert (Keeley) Dungan, Brittney Dungan and Lisa Gann; his great-grandchildren, Austin Waggoner, Braxton Waggoner, Kaylee Kelley, Kiara Kelley, Tristan Kelley, Howl Dungan and Eli Gann; his brothers, J.W. (Kathy) Deaton,  and Elvis (Connie) Deaton; his sisters, Bonnie Faye Altwies and Vicki (Don) Jansma; and host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 12, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cave City First Free Will Baptist Church in Cave City with Bro. Trent Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in the Ward Cemetery in Strawberry with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church.

Pallbearers will be Robert Dungan, David Deaton, Michael Sandy, Steven Sandy, Scotty Deaton and Shane Brown.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Gann, Dewayne Mason, Randy Moody, Adam Kelley, William Milligan and the Cave City First Free Will Baptist Church Master’s Men.
