Obituary: Calvin Bailey Sr.

Calvin Bailey Sr. of Newport Arkansas stepped into eternity on June 27th, 2023, at the age of 67. He was born on October 25th, 1955, to Ermalean Miller and Benny Hall.

He attended Newport and Tuckerman schools in 1974.

He worked at Victor Metals, Capital Wire and helped build the ADC prisons of Newport and he worked for the railroad. He was also a soldier in the Arkansas National Guard.

Calvin married the love of his life, Olivia Reed, on October 30th, 1980.  To this union three children were born: Tasha (George), Letesha (Parnell) and Calvin Tyrone Bailey Jr.  He also became the father of two other children Gerald (Erica) and Veleka (Robert).

Calvin loved horseshoes, shooting pool, dominoes, and barbecuing.  Calvin was known as a well-dressed gent with his dashing good looks and mesmerizing dimples.  Calvin had a warm smile; he had never met a stranger.  He loved to hang out with his brother Raymond and his uncle Leroy.  He was a member of the 5th Street Church of Christ, formerly known as Calhoun Street Church of Christ. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Charlie, and Alberta Hall, along with Harvey and Ermaneal Bailey.  His brothers Mack Kinley Young, Alfred Jr. Young, Ulysses Young and Carey Hall.  Also preceding him was his grandson Latrell Worsham, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Along with his children and their mother, Calvin leaves to cherish his memory 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, his brothers Raymond Bailey, Ricky Young, Felix Young, one sister Teresa Young, Uncle Allen Bailey, Aunt Alma Bailey Walker (Therman), Aunt Carolyn Williams, Aunt Lisa Turner, Aunt Velda Robinson and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Lewis Dixon, Clifford Jones, Robert Floyd, Antonio Gipson, David Hall, and Billy Joe White.

Service of Celebration honoring the life of Mr. Calvin Bailey will be on Saturday, July 8th at 2:00 PM at 5th Street Church of Christ with Brother Harold Young officiating.  The interment will be at New Hope Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday, July 7, 2023, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Dillinger Funeral Home chapel.
