Obituary: Garland Hendrix

Mr. Garland Hendrix, 74, of Tuckerman departed this life on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Garland was born in Newport 0n May 28, 1949, to Vernon Ray and Agnes Elizabeth (Swan) Hendrix. On August 2, 1969, Garland married the love of his life Miss Mary Smith where they enjoyed 54 years together.

Garland loved growing his vegetable garden and deer hunting. Only going to the sixth grade at school Garland was a chief engineer on dredge boats. His employers often said if he would have been able to finish school, he could have been anything in life he wanted as smart as he already was.

Garland was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Clifton Hendrix, Clifford Hendrix, Woody Hendrix, Oscar Hendrix, and sister; Brenda Winston.

He is survived by his wife Mary, daughters; Elizabeth Culp of Jonesboro and Karen Jackson (John) of Tuckerman; his brother Albert (Billie) Hendrix of Tuckerman; eight grandchildren, Kriston Kroger, Marylynn Valenta, Sam Culp, Josh Culp, Candy Culp, Brittany Culp, Robin Dobbs, Casey Lee Dobbs, and eight great grandchildren and one on the way.

Garland had two very special friends, Harvey Caldwell Sr., and Harold Odom.

Services for Garland will be Wednesday September 6, 10am at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel with visitation starting at 9am. Brother Rick Herring will be officiating.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Albert Hendrix Jr., Clifford Hendrix, Marcus Hendrix, Greg Clark, Sammy Smith, Harvey Caldwell Jr., honorary pallbearer will be Harvey Caldwell Sr.
