Several ribbon cuttings for local organizations will be presented by the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) next week.

On Tuesday, Sept. 19, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will occur at Southside Charter High School (SCHS) at 70 Scott Drive in Southside to celebrate the new Southside Financial Education Center. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m.

According to the chamber, Citizens Bank is partnering with local school districts to open student-operated banks that bring students real-world financial education and practical experience.

The program will equip young individuals with essential financial literacy skills, enhance their customer service abilities, and foster leadership qualities among students.

The partnership marks the beginning of a comprehensive three-year banking pathway at SCHS. During the capstone year, eligible candidates will be carefully selected and undergo specialized training to serve as student bankers.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Skills Development Lab at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville’s (UACCB) Workforce Training Center at 2005 White Drive in Batesville on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m.

According to the chamber, UACCB “…provides quality educational opportunities within a supportive learning environment through community partnerships, responsive programs, and an enduring commitment to improvement. The event is being held to celebrate the opening of a new lab dedicated to equipping students with technical workforce skills in welding, engineering, machining, and robotics.” A partnership with Spartan Mowers powers the lab, according to the chamber.

The Kids of Arkansas’s Secondhand Swank will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will occur at 901 Batesville Blvd. in Southside.

Secondhand Swank is a new consignment shop in Southside that features clothing, shoes, and formal attire. Proceeds benefit For the Kids of Arkansas, a local non-profit that promotes children’s health and well-being.

And a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new student pantry at Lyon College will be held on the lower level of Edwards Commons on Lyon’s campus in Batesville on Friday, September 22, at 11 a.m.

The new “Serve Our Students Pantry,” funded through a grant from the Walmart Foundation and additional donors, provides supplemental food to Lyon students in need, ensuring them reliable access to sufficient quantities of affordable, nutritious food.

All community supporters, chamber members, ambassadors, board members, and staff are invited to attend each of these ceremonies.
