Sharon Long of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the age of 81. She was born August 18, 1942, in Algoa, the daughter of Woodrow Wilson, Sr. and Mary Geneva (Snyder) Long.
Ms. Long was a 1960 graduate of Newport High School. Following high school, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education at Arkansas Teachers College in 1964. Ever the over-achiever, while working towards her goal to graduate with her master’s degree, she taught at Wynne Public Schools as a Business teacher from 1964 to 1969. She served as a Case Worker for the Cross County Department of Human Services before she worked 19 years as a Business Instructor at Crowley’s Ridge Vo-Tech, where she retired in 1989.
Ms. Long was an active member at Holden Avenue Church of Christ. She found joy in studying her Bible and supporting the Children’s Home.
Ms. Long enjoyed working the New York Times crossword puzzles, bird watching, and sending cards to hundreds of people across the country, all while keeping a close eye on politics.
Ms. Long was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Diane (Long) Tate; and her parents.
She is survived by one brother, Woody Long and wife, Susan, of Huntingdon, Tennessee; nieces and nephews, Karen Madden and husband, Tony, Kevin Tate and wife, Betsy, Stephanie Long, Sara Moss and husband, Beau, Mary Rachel Baker, and Dawson Dale; great nieces and nephews, Ashton Simmons, Kannon Tate, Justus Bradley, Kloe Tate, Byron Bryant, and Nate Moss; and great-great niece, Lanora Simmons.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Memory Gardens Cemetery at Johnstown, with Mr. Glen Knabe officiating.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Kevin Tate, Kannon Tate, Tony Madden, Cade Simmons, Dawson Dale, Quent Mitchell, Justus Bradley, and Byron Bryant.
Honorary pallbearers are Bonnie Watkins, Nancy Cordell, and Mary Smith Baker.
