Strong to severe thunderstorms packing damaging winds, large hail, and even a possible tornado are forecast to sweep across Arkansas tonight into Friday morning. The most intense storms are expected in far southwest sections of the state.
According to the National Weather Service, most of the White River Now region is under a wind advisory from 6 a.m. Friday to midnight Friday night.
The severe weather threat diminishes Friday morning, but colder air ushers in a rain-to-snow transition across northwest and northern Arkansas. Dusting to one-inch snowfall accumulations are possible, with higher amounts in the Ozarks. Wind chills are forecast to dip into the single digits and teens, continuing into early Saturday.
Wider wintry weather is likely Sunday into Monday, with a new storm system bringing even colder Arctic air. Central and northern Arkansas face potential snowfall, while southern areas may see a mix of rain, sleet, and snow before transitioning to all snow late Sunday night.
Bitterly cold temperatures are expected early next week. Forecast highs remain in the teens and 20s Monday and Tuesday, with lows in the single digits and teens. Dangerous wind chills, potentially dipping below zero as early as Sunday night, are likely across much of the state.
Stay informed and take precautions:
