A silo lid measuring 16 feet tall and 15 feet wide and weighing 220,000 pounds will be transported through Independence County this weekend as it is moved to a steel mill in eastern Arkansas.

In a release on Thursday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) said Arkansas Highway Police and ARDOT will assist escort crews in the transport of the “extremely oversized” load, known as a “super load,” along northeast Arkansas highways beginning at dawn on Sunday, Jan. 28.

The silo lid will be moved from the Missouri state line through Fulton, Sharp, Independence, Jackson, Craighead, and Mississippi counties to the Big River Steel Mill near Osceola. (See the route below.)

The operation is scheduled to be complete by 1 p.m. on Sunday.
