
Eighth-grader Hallie Hayes out-spelled 17 other competitors from nine area schools to become the 2024 Independence County Spelling Bee winner on Tuesday, Jan. 30, according to a release from the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesvllie (UACCB). Hayes is a student at Cedar Ridge High School.
Citizens Bank sponsored the Independence County Spelling Bee. UACCB hosted the event in Independence Hall with eighteen competitors from area schools ranging from fifth to eighth grades competing in the Bee.
Katelynn Williford, a seventh-grade student from Midland, was the runner-up.
Hallie and Katlynn received a $50 and a $25 gift card, respectively, courtesy of Citizens Bank.
Citizens Bank’s CeeBee was on hand to present the awards, the release noted.
