A Mountain View barbecue restaurant was destroyed in an early evening fire on Wednesday.

According to the Stone County Leader, the blaze started around 6:30 p.m. at Kinfolks Bar-B-Q, located at 118 Howard Street, on the northwest corner of the courthouse square.

The Leader noted that musicians and others gathered across the street at Mountain View Music noticed smoke rising from the restaurant’s smoker, which “did not have its usual appearance or aroma.” After flames were spotted, the onlookers went to notify the diners and staff inside the restaurant and call 911.

The Mountain View Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to a nearby business.
