Cleburne County authorities have identified human skeletal remains discovered late last year in the Jim Kress Wildlife Area at Wilburn.

According to a social media post by Sheriff Chris Brown, the remains belong to Edward Rounds, 63, of Drasco. The Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the identification after multiple attempts.

Rounds’ remains were found on December 31, 2023. Initially, authorities were unable to identify them, and the partial skeleton was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for DNA and other tests. According to the Jonesboro media outlet KAIT, the victim appeared to be a man who had undergone spinal surgery or had a spinal fusion plate in his neck.

On Wednesday, Brown announced that his office had finally obtained the identification after repeated efforts.

The investigation into Rounds’ death is ongoing. The public is urged to provide any relevant information to Detective Angelo Aldrighetti at the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office at (501) 362-8143.
