Obituary: Bettie M. Schleiff

Bettie M. Schleiff, 87, of Springdale, formerly of Batesville, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in Springdale.  She was born in a small farmhouse south of Portia, Arkansas to Fred Edward Wagoner and Bertha Mae Ballard Wagoner.  She was of the Baptist faith and sang in church where the family attended and she grew up.

She graduated at the age of 16 from Egypt High School in 1953.  She was the salutatorian of her class.  She was a forward on the girl’s basketball team for six years and made many friends.  Following graduation, she moved to Memphis by herself and attended business college and later Jonesboro.  She then moved to California where she married her husband, Steve and later attended San Diego State, graduating in 1974 with a degree in Business Education.   Mrs. Bettie finally made her way back home to Batesville and supported her husband in the real estate industry and together started The Property Shoppe.  She also was a school teacher, having taught business for over 20 years at Concord Schools.  Bettie enjoyed athletics as well as her plants, and pets and spending time with her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 47 years, Stephen G. Schleiff and a brother, Dewayne Wagoner.

Survivors include two sons, Joel Schleiff (Alexandra) of Springdale and Gregg Schleiff (Andrea) of Conway; a brother, Joel Wagoner (Jeannie) of Batesville; a sister, Connie Crafton of Batesville; three grandchildren, Jadyn Lovell and Sinjin Schleiff of Springdale and Olivia Gist of Conway.  She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Katie Pierce officiating.

Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery located in Batesville

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Wagoner, Chris Wagoner, Joel Wall, Rance Wagoner, Seth Wagoner and Bill Olson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joel Wagoner, John Wall, Bill Robertson and Kirk Payne.

The family would also like to give a special mention to Velma, Rosie, Mark Wagoner, Steve Wagoner and Tim Wagoner.
