Arkansas Hospice, the state’s largest nonprofit hospice provider, will host a volunteer training session Friday, May 2, in Batesville for individuals interested in learning more about the organization and its volunteer opportunities.

The training will begin at 10 a.m. at the Arkansas Hospice office, 3000 Jennings Lane, Suite C. Lunch will be provided.

Volunteers are considered a key part of the hospice care team and may assist patients in a variety of ways, including making personal visits or phone calls, sitting with patients to give caregivers a break, or providing companionship. Additional volunteer roles include office assistance, help with special events, and specialized support such as sewing or pet therapy.

All volunteers must complete training and certification, pass background and driving record checks, and provide a valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance. A flu shot and tuberculosis skin test are also required.

“Whatever your talents might be, you can make a big difference for our Arkansas Hospice patients and families,” said Hannah Alvarado, volunteer coordinator.
