Mary Eary (pictured above, right, with Citizens Bank’s Ashley Davis), director of White River Academy, was named on Monday to receive the April Citizens Bank Above & Beyond Award.

Citizens Bank said in a release that Eary is respected by students and staff alike and that her “deep care shines forth in her dedication to creating an effective learning and teaching environment at White River Academy.”

Her peers said:

  • “Mary Eary exemplifies the term ‘above and beyond’. She is kind and tough as nails, whether she is working with a student or a teacher. The students all respect her because they know that she is fair and cares for each of them deeply. Mary is the administrator of WRA, but she often seeks and values input from parents, teachers, and other professionals before making difficult decisions. She is always willing to go wherever or do whatever it takes to make sure that her students and staff are safe and their needs are being met.”
  • “Mrs. Eary is the kind of educator who transforms a school community with her unwavering dedication and passion for educating. Every day, she goes above and beyond, ensuring that both students and staff feel supported, valued, and inspired. Her kindness and understanding create a welcoming environment where students thrive, and her intelligence and forward-thinking mindset allow her to anticipate challenges before they arise. She doesn’t just react—she plans, innovates, and constantly seeks ways to improve the learning experience.”
  • “Mrs. Eary always puts the students and staff first. She is always kind, understanding, and her office door is always open.”

Since 2012, Citizens Bank and the Batesville School District have recognized staff members who go “above and beyond” to realize the district’s mission to empower today’s students for tomorrow’s challenges. Staff in all schools and departments throughout the district nominate award recipients, who receive a Certificate of Excellence, a $25 gift card and a 16-ounce insulated cup from Citizens Bank. The award is presented at the Batesville School Board meeting each month.
