Douglas Henson, 79, of Jacksonport, passed from this life on May 7, 2025. He was born on November 5, 1945, to Clyde and Clister (Combs) Henson.
Douglas was a man who lived life on his own terms, embracing each day with humor, charm, and a free spirit. Known for his love of good company and great stories, Doug had a way of drawing people in with his infectious laugh and endless tales—many of which were taller than the riverbanks he loved to visit.
A true friend to many, Doug enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He spent countless hours by the river, soaking in the peace of nature or sharing laughs with friends around a barbecue. Poker nights and casino trips were among his favorite pastimes—he relished the excitement of a good hand and the camaraderie of the game. He was known for being quick with a joke, a wink, or a clever story that always left people smiling.
More than anything, Doug appreciated connection—whether through shared meals, conversations on the porch, or time spent just “shooting the breeze.” By his side through it all was his loyal companion, his beloved dog Maggie, who was not just a pet but a steadfast friend.
Douglas was a man of warmth, wit, and unwavering loyalty. Though he didn’t seek the spotlight, he left a lasting impression on those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He reminded us all to take life a little less seriously, to laugh more, and to enjoy the ride.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Cleaster Henson and his sisters, Darlene Wilson and Greta Driver. He leaves behind his wife of twenty four years, Rena Henson of Jacksonport; his sons, Douglas Henson (Kristen) of Little Rock and Brandon Pratt (Heather) of Thida; his daughter, Kimberly Dawn Watkins (Shawn Kinard) of Newport; his brother-in-law, Robert Davis (Lori) of Cave City; his sister, Sue Jenson of Newport; his sister-in-laws, Regina Crouch (Mark) of Cave City, Reba Fenn (Jerry) of Bradford and Ronda Collins (Bobby) of Cave City; eleven grandchildren and twenty four great-grandchildren: three great great-grandchildren: and a host of dear friends and loved ones who will forever cherish the stories, memories, and love he shared so generously.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Hunter Pratt, Brandon Pratt, D.J. Hatler, Kevin Watkins, Buddy Combs, and Shawn Kinard.
Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jimmy Cooper and Brother Buddy Combs officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 until service time. Interment will be at Balch Cemetery.
