Inmate escapes from North Central Unit; public urged to report information

According to a release from the Arkansas Division of Corrections, authorities are actively searching for inmate Grant Hardin, ADC #168541, age 56, who escaped from the North Central Unit in Calico Rock at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, May 25.

Hardin has been incarcerated at the facility since 2017, serving a 30-year sentence for first-degree murder, in addition to a separate sentence for rape. Prior to his incarceration, Hardin served as the police chief of Gateway, Arkansas, and had a background in law enforcement.

According to the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, Hardin escaped through the sally port wearing an ADC uniform. (See image below.)

The Arkansas Division of Corrections and the Division of Community Corrections are coordinating with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to track leads related to Hardin’s whereabouts.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about Hardin to contact local law enforcement immediately. He is to be considered extremely dangerous and should not be approached. Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
