
Claude Wade Hendrix of Newark, Arkansas, departed this life on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the age of 83. He was born January 14, 194,2, in Parkin, Arkansas, the son of Charles Walter and Vera (McConnell) Hendrix.
Mr. Hendrix graduated from Newark High School in 1960 and subsequently enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he trained as an instrument mechanic. After completing his military service, he returned to Arkansas and opened Hendrix’s Garage, where he worked as an auto mechanic until his retirement in 2021.
He was a certified pilot who loved working in his shop. Mr. Hendrix enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and playing cards. He would also pass time by watching NASCAR and westerns on television.
Mr. Hendrix was preceded in death by five brothers, William L. Hendrix, Calvin Hendrix, Edward Hendrix, Alvin Hendrix, and Jimmy Hendrix; three sisters, Fannie Mae King Fortine, Mary Sue Hendrix, and Jo Ann Hendrix; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Dorothy (Brooks) Hendrix of the home; one son, Michael Martin of Waco, Texas; two daughters, Kim Johnson and husband, David of Greenbrier, and Kelley Leonard and husband, Rob of Batesville; four grandchildren, Ayleaha Leonard, Hayden Leonard, Presley Johnson, and Landon Martin; his cat, Duke; many nieces and nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2025, at Jackson’s Newark Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Goodwin officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Randy Hendrix, Jackie Hendrix, Jimmy Hendrix, Allen McDermett, Robert Brooks, Joe Wilbanks, and Dennis Carpenter. Jim Murphy will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
