
Gary Lynn Spicer, affectionately known as “Hillbilly,” passed from this life on May 27, 2025, at the age of 61. He was born in Newport on January 24, 1964, to Raymond and Patricia (Netidire) Spicer.
Gary was a passionate drag racer whose love for the sport ran deep. He spent countless hours under the hood and on the track, always chasing speed and the next great run. His dedication to racing wasn’t just about the cars—it was about the friendships, the shared adrenaline, and the sense of family among his fellow racers. His drag racing buddies weren’t just friends; they were his extended family, bonded by a mutual love for the roar of engines and the thrill of competition.
Known for his big heart, strong work ethic, and unmistakable nickname, “Hillbilly,” Gary was someone people could count on—whether it was for a helping hand, a good story, or a laugh. His memory will live on in the lanes he raced, the friends he cherished, and the lives he touched along the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 29 years, Ann Spicer, of the home; his chosen son, Lynn Wade of Pangburn; his brother, Robin Spicer of Conway; his chosen brother, Allen Poe (Linda) of Thida; his sister, Cindy Hoofman (Danny) of Judsonia; his niece, Tricia Hernandez (Carlos) of Judsonia; his great-niece, Kareli; great-nephews, Achilles, and Alejandro; and a host of aunts and uncles; a lifetime of friends; and his beloved drag racing community.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
