
Ron Shelton of Jonesboro, Arkansas, departed this life on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the age of 82. He was born August 4, 1942, in Alicia, Arkansas, the son of Kelly F. and Ethel (Pruett) Shelton.
Mr. Shelton graduated from Walnut Ridge High School in 1960 and continued his education by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1962 and served his country until his retirement in 1982, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander. During his time in the Navy, he served in Vietnam and traveled the world, visiting countries such as Japan and Bahrain, among others. After retiring, Mr. Shelton earned his CPA certification and served as a Methodist pastor for a period of time.
Mr. Shelton, an avid reader, was known for his ability to read a book a day. He also enjoyed cooking and attending his grandchildren’s events.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Anna (King) Shelton; four brothers, William, Winston, Rev. Morton, and Donald “Don” Shelton; six sisters, Beulah Mae Pruett, Lulu “Louise” Folkers, Madalyn Davidson, Gloria Rousey, Lavida McCracken, and Mildred Watts; and his parents.
Mr. Shelton is survived by one son, Frank Shelton and wife, Lori of Cabot; one daughter, Carolyn Doty and husband, Trent of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren, Craig Doty, Cheyenne Robertson and husband, Brian, Crystal Davis and husband, Michael, Ray Shelton and wife, Kristin, Heather Doty, Sarah Doty and husband, Nathan Anderson, and Anna Marie Tackett and husband, Braden; several great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2025, at Stranger’s Home Cemetery at Alicia with Mr. Bryce Shelton officiating.
