Obituary:  Linda Sue (Cantrell) Davis

Linda Sue (Cantrell) Davis of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the age of 76. She was born November 17, 1948, in Tuckerman, the daughter of Charles Clarence and Annie Lee (Rains) Cantrell.

Mrs. Davis had retired from Crowley’s Ridge Head Start, where she had worked as a Teacher’s Aid and a cook. She enjoyed canning and watching westerns and Southern True Stories. Mrs. Davis loved the outdoors and spent a great deal of her spare time gardening.

She especially cherished her family, and her favorite times were family get-togethers, where she could cook for everyone.

Mrs. Davis was a member of Abiding Faith Church at Swifton. She was dedicated to doing her devotionals.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by two sons, Carl Newberry and James Davis, Jr.; four brothers, Charles Cantrell, Vernon Cantrell, Auther Cantrell, and Jerry Cantrell; and her parents.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, James Davis of the home; one son, Harold Davis and wife, Michelle of Newport; two daughters, Suzi Norman and husband, John of Newport, and Nellie Goza and husband, James of Swifton; one sister, Anna M. Jones and husband, Wayne of Uno; fourteen grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; her special friends, Cheryl and Lane Smith of Swifton; and a lifetime of friends.

Funeral services are at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2025, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Mrs. Carolyn Hohn officiating. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Ben Parker, Jerod Holland, Lane Smith, Seth Davis, J.J. McElroy, and Skipper Thomas. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Wayne Barnes and Martin “Trigger” Barnes.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, or the Shriners.
