
Alfred (Alpo) Roscoe Howard of Newport, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2025, at his home in Midway, at the age of 84. He was born February 9, 1941, the son of Elzie Marshall and Clara (Bible) Howard.
Alfred was a graduate of Newport High School. He married the love of his life, Miss Sara June Bible, on December 11, 1961, and together they have spent sixty-three wonderful years together.
Alfred began working at the early age of 13 and continued until his eventual retirement in 2015. He worked as a car salesman and auto mechanic for seventy-four years. During this time, he often brought his love of cars home with him to his own garage on many occasions. Alfred was an avid all-around hunter, card player, and stock car racer with many trophies won. He especially loved to talk and visit with family and friends. Alfred had never met a stranger and loved to tell his amazing stories about his beloved family and friends to everyone.
Alfred was preceded in death by two brothers, C.R. Howard and Shelley Howard; a sister, Freda May Tubbs; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah June Howard, of the home; two sons, Alfred Todd Howard of Midway and Kenneth Richard Howard of Salem; two daughters, Lisa Clark of Grubbs and Wendy Goodon of Jonesboro; nine grandchildren, Steven David Duffy, Lori Lee McCool, Jamie Lee Watson, Joshua James Goodon, Cody Jamison Howard, Cassidy Alexis Biggers, Destiny Renee Boatman, Zachary Wade Jones, and Blake E. Howard; thirteen grandchildren; and a lifetime of friends.
Funeral services for Alfred will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Jackson’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Mr. Llano Robinson officiating. Interment will be in Balch-Johnston Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday morning, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Adam Boatman, Josh Goodon, Troy Hill, Cody Howard, Zack Jones, and Blake Howard. Honorary pallbearers are Steven Duffy, Mitch Burkhart, and Jon McCool.
The Howard family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. A special thanks and appreciation to St. Bernard’s Hospice and their employees for their care and love towards the Howard family.
