Joann Gennett Brandon, 49, of Newport, passed from this life on July 31, 2025. She was born in Newport on May 15, 1976, to Josephine Brandon.
Joann was a fun-loving and spirited woman who brought joy and laughter to every room she entered. She had a deep love for her family and found her greatest happiness in their company. Whether gathered around the table playing Spades or sharing laughs at a family fish fry, Joann’s warm heart and outgoing personality made everyone feel at home.
She loved fishing and playing Bingo, and she had a true passion for cooking—often feeding both the body and soul of those she loved. Music was another joy in her life, especially R&B, which she could often be heard singing or dancing along to.
Joann was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many. Her generous spirit, infectious smile, and deep love for those around her will be remembered and cherished always.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Joann’s presence may be gone, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Roddy; her mother, Josephine Brandon; her brother, Jerome Brandon; her son Demarius Peel; her granddaughter, Olivia Peel; and a special cousin, Latonya Johnson Ellis.
She is survived by her sons, Trevon Peel (Skylar) of Newport and Cecil Peel Jr. of Newport; her daughters, Tiana Brown of Little rock, Sekyla Peel of Newport, and Quaneshia Brandon of Newport; her brothers, Joe Brandon of Newport, Dennis Lockhart ( Cheryl) of Fresno, California, and Lacey Thomas also of California; her sisters, Latrice Brandon, Crystal Brandon and Carolyn Tucker, all of Newport; her grandchildren, Jaeveon Humphrey, Aubrianna Humphrey, Eliza Peel, Journi Peel and Kashton Brandon; special cousins, Tracy Johnson, Felicia Ross (Eric) and Barbara Harris.
