James B. (Jim) Scroggins, age 87, of Marcella, went to be with his Heavenly Father on August 1, 2025, at Batesville, AR. He was born on August 6, 1937, to Fleet and Edna Scroggins.
After graduation, Jima and Faye were married on August 4, 1956, and celebrated 68 years together. He was a beloved husband, father, papaw, friend, and foster parent guardian.
He worked in Moline, IL, at John Deere Plow Works for 12 years before moving back to Marcella to start his own business- Scroggins Concrete. Jim and Faye were cattle farmers and later managed a four-house poultry operation and were selected as Farm Family of the Year for Stone County in 1989.
Jim served as constable for the area and was very instrumental in establishing the Melrose Fire Department, where he was Fire Chief for several years. He was a member of the Cattleman’s Association, President of the board for the Pleasant Grove Water Association, and a faithful member of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Jim absolutely loved to work and was active and busy as long as his health allowed. He then “day-dreamed” and enjoyed talking about the past. Back in the day, he could eat catfish and home-made ice cream with the best of them. He was always willing to help anyone in need and could normally be there on a dime. He truly enjoyed life to its fullest.
Survivors include his son, Shannon Scroggins (Teresa) of Marcella, daughter, Sherry Waters (Raymond) of Batesville, and son, Jerry Scroggins (Karen) of Malvern; grandchildren, J.J., Jordan, and Jayden Scroggins, Dacen Waters, Spencer Connor, and Rand Scroggins; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family members.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brothers, John and Sammy Scroggins, and special friend, Ken Gunderson.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 9, at 2 PM at the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Jerry Scroggins officiating, assisted by Brother Brian Garrett and Brother Gary Don Fletcher.
Special thanks to the caring hospice nurses: Bridgett Wilson and Kayla Dubreville.
