Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has appointed Landon Downing to the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, an announcement made on Aug. 20.

Downing serves as vice president, commercial lender, and director of community and customer engagement at Citizens Bank, which is headquartered in Batesville.

“I’m deeply honored by this appointment and grateful for the opportunity to serve our state in an area I am deeply passionate about,” Downing said. “It’s a privilege to join my fellow commissioners in working to protect and preserve Arkansas’ natural resources for the benefit of current and future generations.”

In addition to his role at Citizens Bank, Downing is active in the Batesville community. He is president of the Jamestown Crag Foundation, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to preserving sustainable access, conservation and stewardship of Jamestown Crag — a rock climbing destination south of Batesville. He is also board chair of the IMPACT Independence County Foundation and serves on the boards of Wood-Lawn and the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce. Downing is a planning and zoning commissioner for the city of Batesville and an active member of NOMADS Cave Rescue. He and his wife, Madelyn, are active members of Compass Church and have a 2-year-old son, Parker.

“We’re proud to see Landon honored with this significant appointment,” said Micah Beard, regional president at Citizens Bank. “His unwavering commitment to community service and his passion for enhancing life in Arkansas truly embody the core values of Citizens Bank.”

Downing’s term on the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission will run through Jan. 14, 2034.
