Obituary: Peggy J. McCord

Peggy J. McCord, 82, of Batesville, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, August 31, 2025. She was born April 26, 1943, in Batesville to Ezra and Arkie Parrish Stephens.

Peggy was a devoted homemaker and babysitter for many years. To the many children she cared for, she was affectionately known as ”Mrs. Peggy”. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, cooking, and most of all, spending time with her family, especially her great-grandsons. She rarely missed a ballgame or school function for her boys. Known for her giving heart, Peggy was a caretaker who always put her family and friends first. She was a devoted Christian.

On June 17, 1962, Peggy married the love of her life, Claude. Together, they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; three sisters, and an infant son, Micheal Wayne.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Claude; her daughter, Theresa Tomlinson and husband Jeff of Ravenden; her son, Daniel McCord and wife Lisa of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Justin Conyers and wife Meagan of Cord, Whitney Conyers of Batesville, Jordan Tomlinson and wife Amy of Columbia, Missouri, and Jakki Crowley and husband Dee of Holiday Island; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Wynn Conyers of Cord and Wesley and Charlotte Tomlinson of Columbia, Missouri. She also leaves behind her sweet dog, Abbi, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.

Peggy’s life was a beautiful example of love, faith, and family devotion. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Memorials may be made in her memory to the Humane Society of Independence County, 5 Environmental Drive, Batesville, AR 72501, or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, 1 Children’s Way, Little Rock, AR 72202.

The memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville with Bro. Alan Brown and Pastor Dillon Ham are officiating. A visitation will be held before the service at 10:00 A.M. A private burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville.
