Samuel R. Gill of Mountain View, Arkansas, departed this life on September 4, 2025, at the age of 78. Sam was born July 21, 1947, and raised on the family farm in Luber, Arkansas, to parents Lester N. Gill and Allie McMahan Gill.

After graduating from Mountain View High School, Sam was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served for 6 years during the Vietnam War. Upon completing his service, Sam returned home and began a long and dedicated career with the U.S. Postal Service in Mountain View, where he worked for 34 years until his retirement in 2007.

In the 1980s, Sam and his brother Lester began raising Polled Hereford cattle, a passion that brought him great joy and purpose. He took exceptional pride in developing a strong, purebred line of Herefords, tending to them with care until his health no longer allowed.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Lester N and Allie Gill; his brother, Lester Allen Gill of Mountain View; and two sisters, Betty Misenheimer of Longview, Texas, and Mabel Avey of Mountain View.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Marsha Dodson, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 8th, 2025, at Mountain View Funeral Service, beginning at 10:00 am, with Brother Gary Don Fletcher officiating. Interment will take place at Signal Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Signal Hill Cemetery or the Luber School House in Sam’s memory.

Pallbearers are Sam’s great-nephews: Brice Gill, Destry Gill, Jake Gill, Mathas Badgley, Ryan Sullivan, and Ethan Avey.
