An Arkansas egg producer is recalling certain cartons of free-range eggs after federal inspectors found salmonella contamination at a processing site.
Black Sheep Egg Co. of Walnut Ridge has pulled 12-count and 18-count cartons of large brown eggs with best-by dates from Aug. 22 through Oct. 31. The recall affects eggs sold in Arkansas and Missouri between July 9 and Sept. 17, with UPC codes 860010568507 and 860010568538.
The Food and Drug Administration said 40 samples tested positive for salmonella, including strains known to cause human illness, though no outbreak has been linked to the recall.
Consumers, restaurants and retailers are urged to throw out the affected eggs or return them to the place of purchase.
