FutureFuel Corp., a specialty organic chemical and biofuel producer, is closing its remote headquarters in Clayton, Missouri, and consolidating corporate operations at its main production site in Batesville.

The company said in a statement earlier this month that the move is designed to streamline operations and focus on its primary production, technology, and administrative center. “Key personnel” will relocate to Batesville, though FutureFuel did not specify whether other jobs will be affected.

FutureFuel has operated its Batesville facility for nearly 20 years. The company paused biodiesel production there in June, citing regulatory uncertainty around the federal 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit and high input costs. The firm now says it is “a bit more optimistic” about restarting production in the fourth quarter, following clarification of the tax credit under federal legislation enacted in July.

Even with a possible restart, FutureFuel expects specialty chemicals to become a larger part of its sales beginning in early 2026. The company’s shares closed at $4.12 on Tuesday.
