A high-speed police chase late Wednesday night in Little Rock ended in a fiery crash that left two people dead and the driver hospitalized, according to Arkansas State Police.
Around 10:15 p.m., a state trooper attempted to stop a red Infiniti speeding eastbound on Interstate 30 near the 133-mile marker, authorities said. The driver exited at Geyer Springs Road and fled, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph while running traffic lights and nearly hitting other vehicles.
The pursuit continued westbound on I-30, where the vehicle reportedly topped 130 mph before exiting at McDaniel Drive. Police said the car struck another motorist on the service road, lost control, and crashed into heavy machinery at a nearby business, igniting a fire.
Troopers managed to pull one of two passengers from the burning vehicle, but both passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. The 20-year-old driver from Little Rock was ejected from the car and taken to Baptist Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
The motorist struck during the chase was not injured. The Arkansas State Police Highway Patrol Division is leading the investigation and said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
