
Shirley Gordon, beloved mother, sister, and cherished member of the Newport community, was born on October 27, 1948, in Newport, Arkansas, to O.C. Bumpers Sr. and Mildred (Flowers) Bumpers. She passed away on November 11, 2025, surrounded by family and friends who will forever treasure her warmth and kindness.
A devoted member of Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Shirley found joy in serving her faith and community. Her zest for life shone through her many interests – she loved the camaraderie of bowling and softball, the thrill of bingo, and the comfort of cooking delicious meals for those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, O.C. Bumpers Sr., and Mildred (Flowers) Bumpers, whose memory she carried dearly throughout her life.
Shirley is survived by her son, Lacy Gordon and his wife, Lachasty, of Searcy; her brother, O.C. Bumpers Jr. of McCrory; her sisters, Joyce Louise Freeman of Newport and Glenda Person and husband Marvin of Newport. She also leaves behind five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, who were the light of her later years.
Shirley’s legacy is one of resilience, compassion, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
May her memory be a blessing to all whose lives she touched.
Honorary pallbearers are Terry Bumpers, Jermaine Bryant, Michael Bumpers, Travis Murray, Antwon Jackson, Robert Bumpers, Joemerris Thomas, Antonio Bumpers, Jaquaryus Williams, Quincy Person, Brandon King, and Tyrone Sheppard.
Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Newport. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
