Dec. 2, 2025, 3:10 p.m. — This story has been updated to reflect the removal’s postponement to Wednesday morning.

Recovery crews postponed efforts Tuesday to remove a semi truck and trailer that ran off a curve atop Ramsey Mountain early that morning, county officials said.

Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery said the truck, which was headed north on Highway 167, left the roadway at about 2:18 a.m. and dropped more than 50 feet. The rig remained upright, and the driver was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Crews initially planned to close Highway 167 at 6 p.m. Tuesday to begin recovery operations, but the work was rescheduled for Wednesday morning. Manual unloading of the trailer is expected to start around 8 a.m., officials said.

Once equipment is in place, workers will close one lane of the highway and direct traffic around the wrecker as the truck is lifted back onto the roadway.

Witnesses told authorities the truck made no attempt to negotiate the curve before leaving the pavement. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
