Marcia Ann Mercer, age 71, of Newport, passed away peacefully in Jonesboro on December 29, 2025. Born on September 19, 1954, in Newport, she was the cherished daughter of Billy and Dona Mae King Vickers. Marcia’s warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. She found joy in simple pleasures—sitting on her front porch with a cold Pepsi in hand, immersing herself in the heartfelt stories on the Hallmark channel, and delighting in her all-time favorite show, The Gilmore Girls. Marcia also had a passion for collecting cookbooks and was devoted to caring for her beloved family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Douglas Mercer and Ashley Mercer; and her husband, Verlyn “Bub” Mercer. Marcia is survived by her loving daughter, Sarah Moss (Al Green) of Tuckerman; her brother, Doug Vickers of Mammoth Springs; her sisters, Carolyn Haycook of Loanoke, Joann Engle (Mike); and her treasured grandchildren: Michelle Heath (Blake) of Newport, Shelby Greer (Bruce) of Newport, Kayla Mercer of Batesville, Madison Moss (Daniel) of Eureka Springs, and Liam Mercer of Newport.
Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Al Green, Bruce Greer, Blake Heath, Liam Mercer, Austin Mauldin, and Shelby Greer. Interment will follow at Watson Cemetery.
Marcia will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories will remain in their hearts forever.
