A Batesville postmaster was arrested Jan. 5 after a judge found probable cause for multiple felony charges involving child sexual images, according to Independence County Circuit Court records.
Raymond Lloyd Freeman Jr., 49, the postmaster for Batesville, is charged with nine counts of pandering or possessing visual or print media depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child, a Class C felony under Arkansas law. His bond was set at $150,000.
Court documents state the investigation began Oct. 30, when a mandated reporter contacted the Batesville Police Department after discovering inappropriate online communications involving Freeman and a minor. Authorities later obtained electronic evidence and executed a search warrant for Freeman’s phone.
Investigators interviewed a 15-year-old girl with her parents present, according to the affidavit. Police allege the communications occurred through an online chat website and included the exchange of explicit images.
Freeman was interviewed by police on Nov. 13 after being advised of his rights, records show. Investigators later received records from the website confirming communications between Freeman and the minor dating back to late September 2025.
Freeman remains jailed pending further court proceedings in Independence County Circuit Court.
