Obituary: Alvin Wayne Piker

Alvin Wayne Piker, age 93, of Newport, passed peacefully from this life on January 19, 2026.

He was born on February 25, 1932, in Bradford, Arkansas, to Levy Piker and Edith (Stacy) Piker.

Wayne joined the Air Force in 1948. He served during the Korean War in Guam, Japan and Korea. After he was discharged from the Air Force, he worked for General Motors in Detroit and Flint, Michigan. In 1958, he returned to Arkansas and was employed at Victor Metal in Newport until 2004.

Wayne was a member of the Holden Avenue Church of Christ.  He enjoyed working on cars, and when he went to visit friends and family, he would spend time helping them work on their cars. As long as he was repairing something, he was happy. He also enjoyed using his White’s metal detector in Remmel Park in Newport. He enjoyed fishing in the White River with his friends and family and loved eating at Western Sizzlin.  After he retired, he could usually be found tinkering with projects in his shops.

Wayne married Glenda Tilley on January 14, 1953. He married Helen Vaughn on April 12, 2001, in Batesville, Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife Helen; two sons, Steven Piker (Karen), Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Terry Piker (Denise Richmond), Little Rock, Arkansas; stepson Chris Vaughn, Daphne, Alabama; two granddaughters, Amanda Jennings, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Jennifer Porter, Benton, Arkansas; and two great granddaughters, Abigail Atchley and Avery Bright; sister Lorene Scarborough; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Gene Goza.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Levy and Edith Piker; stepmother Beulah Sloan Piker, and two brothers, Harold Piker and Loyal Piker; and his first wife, Glenda Tilley.

Funeral will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel with visitation from 11:00 until 12:30, burial to follow at Smith Cemetery in Bradford, Arkansas.
