A dangerous winter storm is heading for Arkansas this week, bringing heavy snow, ice, and bitter cold.

The National Weather Service says the storm will hit Friday afternoon and last through early Sunday. Northern Arkansas could see 4 to 8 inches of snow—possibly more than 10 inches in some spots. Southern counties face a bigger threat from ice, with up to half an inch of freezing rain that could snap tree limbs and knock out power.

A winter storm watch is now in effect for most of the state from Friday afternoon through late Saturday night.

Travel could become nearly impossible in some areas, especially during Friday’s evening commute.

But the storm isn’t the only danger. Brutally cold air will stick around through early next week, with overnight temperatures dropping into the single digits and wind chills below zero from Saturday through Monday morning.
