Joe Jewell passed away Friday night, January 23, 2026, after a lengthy illness. He leaves behind his wife, Susan; brother, Tim (Jane); sister, Suzy (Richard) and is predeceased by his parents and two sons.

Joe was a part of the community of Mountain View for over 30 years, and the majority of those were spent encouraging and mentoring many young musicians and he was known to a few as “Papa Joe”. He was a regular performer at the Ozark Folk Center State Park until 2024 and started the “Next Generation” Concert Series that’s held there every year. Joe was also an accomplished wrestler and helped coach the Mountain View Stingers Youth Wrestling Club.

Before moving to Arkansas, he and his wife, Susan, enjoyed life in the Florida Keys, and later lived aboard and sailed their ketch, the “Dancing Bear,” through the Intracoastal and to the Bahamas. They then traded sails for tires and traveled the country, having many adventures and making many friends along the way.

They also saw the world: Iceland, New Zealand, Belgium, and much more. To know Joe and Susan is to love them, and he will be dearly missed.

A celebration of life will be scheduled and shared with loved ones at a later date.

Roller Crouch Funeral Home in Mountain View, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements.
