
Independence County’s one-cent, countywide sales tax balance for January 2026 came in above projections.
The county reported a January 31, 2026, balance of $364,534, exceeding the projected January balance of $358,595. The projection had represented a 6.23% increase over January 2025 and a 6.23% year-to-date increase over 2025, according to county data dated Jan. 31.
Historical figures included in the report show annual collections of $282,951.80 in 2020, $316,052.12 in 2021, $321,906.95 in 2022, $285,266.63 in 2023, $398,470.52 in 2024, and $343,153.31 in 2025.
County officials note the January sales tax figures reflect transactions made in November, sent to the state in December, and returned to the county in January.
Also listed in the January 2026 report are allocations of $180,638.73 for the UACCB sales tax and $180,638.72 for the fire department sales tax.
The claimed rebate total — sales tax later refunded through the state rebate program — was $49,333.45.
