Obituary: Bobby Leroy Kieffner

Bobby Leroy Kieffner, of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the age of 89. He was born February 3, 1937, in Greene County, the son of Fred and Bertha (Fields) Kieffner.

Mr. Kieffner was a graduate of Stanford High School. He married the love of his life, Miss Yvonne Ward, on December 24, 1955. Together, they have shared 70 years of marriage.

He worked for thirty-eight years as a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1999. He was known for his great work ethic, never missing a day of work.

Mr. Kieffner was an avid sports fan, his favorites being the Arkansas Razorbacks, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Newport Greyhounds. Mr. Kieffner’s hobbies included fishing and duck hunting. He was known for being the first to see when ducks were coming, thus earning the nickname “The Pointman”. Mr. Kieffner took great pride in tending to his yard and keeping his vehicles clean. His greatest love was his family; he loved attending his sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons’ events. He was a Christian believer.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Alvis “Bub” Kieffner, Arthur Kieffner, Edwin Kieffner, Elmer Kieffner, Amos Kieffner, Edman Kieffner, and J.W. Kieffner; four sisters, Ona Irene Ruff, Daisy Mae Young, Helen Dean Cupp, and Imogene Wilmoth; and his parents.

Mr. Kieffner is survived by his beloved wife, Yvonne (Ward) Kieffner, of the home; two sons, Randy Kieffner and wife, Lisa, of Searcy, and Bryan Kieffner and wife, Kim, of Melbourne; one grandson, Brad Kieffner and wife, Melissa, of Newport, two step-grandsons, Drake Kieffner and wife, Madi, of Judsonia, and Drew Kieffner of Jacksonville; one great-grandson, Reece Kieffner of Newport; two step great-grandchildren, Memphis Kieffner and Ivy Kieffner of Judsonia; a host of nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Chip Youngblood, Billy Keedy, Justin Doyle, and Josh Kieffner. Honorary pallbearers will be his coffee shop crew.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Greene County Memorial Gardens.
