Jamie Ann Moore
For more than 30 years, she was known only as Jane Doe — a woman whose body was found along a set of railroad tracks in rural Arkansas, her identity a mystery that outlasted countless investigative efforts. Now, authorities say they finally know her name.
The Conway County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State Police announced this week that a 1994 homicide victim has been identified as Jamie Ann Moore, 32, of Conway, using investigative genetic genealogy — a technique that pairs DNA analysis with genealogical research to identify unknown individuals and generate leads in cold cases.
Moore’s body was discovered Oct. 24, 1994, near railroad tracks along U.S. Highway 64 between Morrilton and Plumerville. The Arkansas State Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide. Her killer or killers have never been identified.
The breakthrough came after years of incremental scientific work. In 2016, the Conway County Quorum Court appropriated funding for Parabon NanoLabs to develop an initial forensic DNA profile and a composite image of the victim. In 2024, Othram Labs conducted advanced genealogical research that produced familial DNA matches, and investigative genetic genealogist Stephanie Wyatt developed leads that pointed investigators toward a possible family member.
After interviewing a woman believed to be Moore’s daughter, investigators obtained a DNA sample for biological testing. On Feb. 19, 2026, the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory confirmed the match.
“The identification of Jamie Moore marks a significant step forward in this investigation and, most importantly, provides long-awaited answers to Jamie’s loved ones,” Conway County Sheriff Mike Smith said. “We are grateful for the partnership and continued support of the Arkansas State Police and the diligent efforts of the Arkansas State Crime Lab, as well as Stephanie Wyatt for her highly specialized work in genetic genealogy that made this breakthrough possible.”
The homicide investigation remains active. CCSO investigators and special agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division continue to review evidence and follow leads. Fifteenth Judicial District Prosecutor Tom Tatum II is providing legal guidance and prosecutorial support.
