Landon Reeves has announced his intention to resign from the Batesville City Council.

Reeves was appointed as the Ward 1, Position 1 alderman on Oct. 17, 2023.

He told White River Now that he has a growing law firm, and he and wife, Megan, also have three young children: Parker Reeves, Collin Reeves, and Henry Reeves.

“Since that time, the law firm has continued to grow,” Reeves said. “We’re now at Batesville, Melbourne, Heber Springs, and Mountain View. We’ve got four different offices, and a couple of attorneys, and so we’re busier than we’ve ever been, to the point that I don’t think I’ve got the time necessary to devote to the position of which it needs to be done.

“And so, out of being a good steward for the community and trying to do what’s best for the people, I think that they need somebody who has more time than what I’ve currently got to be able to devote to the position. And so that’s why I decided to resign.”

It is expected that Reeves will present a letter of resignation at the next city council meeting, at which time the council may accept the move. Until then, Reeves will continue to hold the office. The next council meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10.

Reeves said he wanted to serve on the city council to help improve his community as well as economic development. He said he has served on the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce Board as well as chairman of the Batesville Independence Economic Development Corporation Board. He has also served on the Advertising & Promotions (A & P) Board. Before joining the council, he served on the city’s planning and zoning commission.

Reeves said there might be a possibility in the future of getting back into public service, once his kids are older and work slows down. “I’ll always be drawn towards trying to do whatever I can do to help make this a better place for everybody within our area,” he said. “When that is, who knows? But certainly, it’ll be a time when I actually have, you know, the time and the ability to devote to it that it really requires.”

Any resident in Ward 1 (to include such areas as Eagle Mountain, Goff Addition, Quail Valley, etc.) interested in serving in the position can call City Hall at 870-698-2400.
