Participants in the first ASU-Newport Registered Apprenticeship for AG Service Technicians with Greenway Equipment hold their completion certificates following the program’s inaugural cohort.
Arkansas State University-Newport has announced the completion of its first cohort of registered apprentices trained through a partnership with Greenway Equipment, marking what officials call a significant milestone in addressing agricultural workforce needs across the region.
The apprentices completed the ASUN-sponsored Registered Apprenticeship for Agricultural Service Technician program, a structured initiative developed through the university’s Workforce Development division. The program pairs hands-on technical training with formal instruction designed to prepare workers for careers servicing agricultural equipment.
“Programs like this demonstrate the impact of strong partnerships between education and industry,” said Dr. Typhanie Myers, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs at ASUN. “By working alongside employers like Greenway Equipment, we are creating meaningful training opportunities that equip individuals with in-demand technical skills while strengthening the workforce that supports our agricultural communities.”
Greenway Equipment, which collaborated with ASUN to launch the program, framed the initiative as part of a broader commitment to developing skilled technicians from within its existing workforce rather than relying solely on outside hiring.
University officials said the program is designed to help employers build what they describe as sustainable talent pipelines — a model they hope will appeal to other agricultural businesses in the region facing workforce shortages.
ASUN is encouraging additional employers to explore similar arrangements. Businesses interested in developing customized apprenticeship programs can contact the university’s Workforce Development team at workforce@asun.edu.
