Arkansas voters are returning to the polls Tuesday for a primary runoff election to finalize the Republican ticket for a top state office and settle local contests in north-central Arkansas.
The statewide spotlight is on the Republican primary for secretary of state, where State Sen. Kim Hammer of Benton and Army veteran Bryan Norris of Batesville are in a head-to-head battle. The race moved to a runoff after neither candidate secured a majority in the March 3 primary.
The winner of Tuesday’s contest will advance to the general election to replace Secretary Cole Jester, who was appointed to the role and is ineligible to seek a full term. Hammer, a veteran legislator, is leaning on his experience in the General Assembly, while Norris has campaigned on his record of military service.
Local leadership is also on the ballot in two neighboring counties: Baxter County, where Brian Davis and Mark Hollingsworth are competing for sheriff, while in Stone County, Tim Hudspeth and Darryl Sullivan are vying for county judge, the county’s chief executive position.
