Nancy Catherine Cofield Cothern, known lovingly as Nancy, passed away on April 1, 2026, in Batesville, Arkansas, at the age of 85.
Nancy was born on January 21, 1941, in Colt, Arkansas, to Ezra Bennett Cofield and Myrtle Etheridge Cofield. She grew up with a strong sense of family, faith, and hard work that would remain with her throughout her life. Nancy carried herself with quiet strength and kindness, and those who knew her will remember her as a woman of grace, warmth, and steadfast devotion to the people she loved.
Nancy was married to James Cothern for 55 years, and together they built a life centered on love, commitment, and family. James preceded her in death, along with her parents and two brothers. She was a devoted mother to her son, Andy Cothern and his wife, Chris, and her daughter, Kristi Burghart and her husband, Mike, both of whom survive her. She also leaves behind five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of great joy in her life. Her family was the heart of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Nancy had a very strong work ethic and was proud of the life she built through years of steady dedication. She worked for Vaccaro Lumber Company in Forrest City, Arkansas, and loved her work there for 50 years. Her loyalty, dependability, and commitment were evident in all she did, and she earned the respect of those who worked alongside her. Nancy approached life with determination and humility, setting an example for others through her actions and her perseverance.
Outside of work, Nancy found happiness in simple and meaningful pleasures. She enjoyed going to church and found comfort and strength in her faith. She also had a fondness for drinking Dr. Pepper from Sonic, a small enjoyment that brought her delight. Above all else, Nancy loved her family dearly. She treasured time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life will be held in Colt, Arkansas for friends and family at a later date. Nancy’s memory will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind, and she will be remembered for her devotion, her work ethic, her faith, and the love she shared so freely throughout her life.
